| what the hell??? I dont log into xanga for a long time, and now all the menus are changed. It took me 20 seconds to figure out how to add a new entry. Call me slow, but when someone moves all the furniture around in your house it'll take a few seconds to find everything- like when that remote control falls into the couch cushions. Thats my complaint about the new facebook. I dont get it, why mess with something that works. Anyways... 1. Someone told me Washington Mutual was rock solid and I shouldnt worry-"it'll never fail" (dont worry, I'm not talking about u shirly)- and today they are shut down. While I know my money is fine, its a bit disconcerting knowing that such an instution that I trust and seemed so solid was really rotting away on the inside. However I still should have trusted my intution and pulled all my money out earlier this week... also I wanted to cause a bank run by shouting in the lobby "they wont give me my money!!!" 2. I've decided that I will try to live on home cooked food to save money. I will make sandwiches and bring them to work, and I will prepare simple but healty foods to eat for dinner. I realized that I spend about $7 a day for lunch eating foods that I really dont like. I also realized that I dont care much for food, taste wise. I honestly could be just as happy eating cafeteria pot roast w/ mashed potatoes as much as filet mignon au poivre. I think the only reason I eat at nice resturants is for the atmosphere or just because its convenient and a good place to hold a conversation ect. Therefore I will try to cut down as much as I can on my outdoor eating expendictures. I probably will go out to eat only if its with friends just for the sake of eating out. But if its on my own- I'm cooking it. Thats it for now =) -Mr.Penguin | | |
| I think its about time I write something, but I cant think of anything to say. oh, one thought I had today was that I was reading some comments people posted in response to a news article- and I must say that a lot of the thoughts seems to be very uneducated. I dont want to come off sounding elitist, but I am comming to the conclusion that as more people have acess to the internet, we are going to the opinions of mainstream, middle of the road america. When I first started using the internet around 1996 or 1997, I knew of few people that used the internet, and even fewer (due to the limitations) of having the means to contribute ideas in the means we have today (ie posting an opinion under a yahoo newstory). I myself, didnt have any idea how to use the early bulletin board systems so as a result I stuck to surfing generic articles, news, research ect. But I realize that the early users either tended to be young, or those maturer individuals well versed in technology, or the affluent that had the ability to pay for dial up or internet access. Infact most users were probably college students. But in the past 10 or so years, the internet has become so mainstream that everyone and their grandfather can use it. I dont know what I'm rambling about- but I guess what I am trying to say is, is that before you might get more exclusive opinions due to the demographics, but now the party is open to everyone off the street. The good is you will get more diversified opinions, but the bad is you get some morons that dont know anything and believe that they can spout out ideas over net because they have the cover of being anonymous. I guess its no different then how it was before, but I think we will see more of it. ok, off to sleep. | | |
| after an extended vacation from xanga I am back! I bet you readers thought I had abandoned this thing... not quite- neglected yes, abandoned- no. In either case, quite a bit has happened and there probably will be more news ahead, but that will be for a entry in the near future. I kind of wonder how many readers are even left? It seems most ppl made a huge exodus to join facebook and other community sites- that seem to allow bloging too. oops, I better not say that and give ppl reason to leave. In either case, xanga holds a lot of memories for me- good and bad. I really think the heydays are over where I would list ad nausea my daily activities and weekend "funs". I probably will update more often, but use this blog to express my opinions and reviews on things... and once in a while if something cool, or shitty happens to me- report on that. Anyways, thanks again to the few loyal readers that are left. I will try to be more interesting Sincerely, Mr. Penguin | | |
| Scary... I work up today at 6:00am for no reason, and my desk lamp was on making the room so bright I thought I overslept. I have no idea how the lamp came on... unless I did it in my sleep?? | | |
